It seems that Logan is becoming a nice landing spot for Utes looking for another shot. That’s the case with former Utah quarterback Jason Shelley. Shelley has deceived to go to Utah State to play for Gary Andersen and crew with hopes to compete for the starting quarterback spot. Shelley was planning on moving to safety at Utah, and even played there in the bowl game, but decided to enter his name into the transfer portal not long after. Shelley wants to be a quarterback, and I think he could be a really good one in the Mountain West. Utah’s QB room was just too full with guys that he’d have a hard time overcoming on the depth chart.
At Utah State, they are looking to replace Jordan Love, and it sounds like they may have a front runner up there already, Shelley will have a shot at the job. Shelley, in his five starts at Utah in 2018, proved to be a nice player, and led Utah to a 3-2 record in those starts. He helped Utah clinch their first outright division title after huge wins over Oregon and Colorado, when all seemed lost after the ASU loss and losing Tyler Huntley and Zack Moss for the season. He also led the epic comeback against BYU when they were down 20 points in the fourth quarter, and cemented himself not only in rivalry history, but program history.
Jason Shelley is a name that Utah fans should appreciate and hold in high regard, and I’m sure they will with those wins he helped lead the Utes to. I’m hoping he wins that job at USU, and I’ll be a massive Aggie fan if he is their starting QB.
Good luck to Shelley.
