Utes pick up three commitments in the past week

While the transfer portal has changed college sports entirely, old fashion recruiting is still a thing. The Utes secured the commitment from three recruits this past week with two quarterbacks and one wide receiver coming on board.

Three-star wide out Zion Steptoe out of Texas committed to the Utes helping the class of 2022 giving some depth to the wide receiver room. The 6-feet, 170-pound Steptoe had offers from Purdue, Kentucky, Pitt, Syracuse, and a bunch of G5 schools.

Turning to the quarterback room the Utes first picked up a commitment from Elite 11 QB Nate Johnson out of Clovis, CA. Johnson had offers from ASU, Michigan, TCU, UCLA, among others. To pick up a kid that is going to the Elite 11 is always a bonus, because he’s going to get some gret coaching at that camp.

Also committing was QB Brandon Rose out of Murrieta, California. The three-star rated QB had offers from Northwestern, Arizona State, Boise State and Colorado. Standing at 6-2 and 195 pounds, Rose joins what is proving to be a QB room that is getting stronger and stronger all the time. Rose played in only five games in the 2020 season but threw for 1,415 yards, 11 touchdowns, and just the one interception.

These three guys join Aisea Moa on the commitment board, and it is going to be interesting to see how the recruiting trail continues to evolve with the portal.

The Utes are building a great roster and a lot of depth, and it will be fun to see these names in the future.
