After a crazy 2020 “season” (I say that because was it really a season?), the Utes are getting some respect going into 2021. The media around the league picked the Utes to place second in the Pac-12 South behind USC. The Utes are also one of three programs to receive votes to win the league, behind Oregon, the favorite, and USC.
Here’s how the league was picked:
Pac-12 South
- USC
- Utah
- ASU
- UCLA
- Colorado
- Arizona
Pac-12 North
- Oregon
- Washington
- Cal
- Stanford
- Oregon State
- Washington State
Likely previously mentioned, Oregon is the pick to win the Pac-12 title game over USC. This year’s conference title game is slated to be played in the new NFL stadium in Vegas.
I find it interesting that the Utes are picked over ASU, with ASU returning quite a lot of offensive talent, including a returning QB. I’m guessing the Utes track record, and of course, their talent, along with Coach Whitt, pushed them over the Devils in the minds of others. UCLA has a lot of returners too, and while I don’t think they should have been picked over ASU and Utah, that is a team to keep an eye on.
We are about a month away from the week zero matchup with UCLA taking on Hawaii.
Camp Kyle starts next week as the Utes will prepare for the season against Weber State.
