As we race closer to the start of the 2021 season the Utes have released who has been voted as team captains for the season. The team votes for two defensive players, two offensive players, and one special teams player. The players voted as captains this season are linebacker Devin Lloyd, defensive end Mika Tafua, quarterback Cameron Rising, wide receiver Britain Covey, and long snapper Keegan Markgraf.

I think it’s a great sign that Cam Rising was named a captain, and a great sign for the future as Rising is without a doubt the future at QB. Britain Covey being voted a captain for the first time is no surprise as I have no doubt when he speaks in that locker room people listen. Lloyd and Tafua are no doubt the leaders of that defense. Markgraf being a long snapper is not a sexy position, but when they don’t perform it really hurts. That was the case a few seasons ago as the Utes needed a long snapper because it really hurt special teams for a stretch of the season.
A strong group of leaders, and I can’t wait to see what they do this season.
