Utah fight song podcast. *It's going to a vote Tuesday*

The ASUU has proposed the fight song be changed to be more inclusive. We discuss that in today's episode.

Whenever the school year starts to come to an end, there seems to be an inevitable controversy up on the hill around the logo, the mascot, or using the name 'Utes.' This year is no different, because earlier this week the ASUU, up on campus, proposed changing the school fight song, 'Utah Man,' to be more gender neutral and inclusive to the student body that it represents.

As you are probably aware, the Twittersphere blew up and opinions started to fly.

We discuss this proposal to possibly change the fight song in today's episode. Should the fight song be changed or tweaked? Is this even an issue that should be discussed, if not why hasn't it been before? Does this now create a platform for people that haven't had a voice in the past?

Below is the fight song; the key phrases in question are, of course, saying 'Utah man, sir,' as well as saying, 'Our coeds are the fairest.'

VERSE
I am a Utah man, sir, and I live across the green.
Our gang, it is the jolliest that you have ever seen.
Our coeds are the fairest and each one's a shining star.
Our yell, you hear it ringing through the mountains near and far.

CHORUS
Who am I, sir? A Utah man am I A Utah man, sir, and will be till I die; Ki!Yi!
We're up to snuff; we never bluff,
We're game for any fuss,
No other gang of college men
dare meet us in the muss.
So fill your lungs and sing it out and
shout it to the sky,
We'll fight for dear old Crimson,
for a Utah man am I.

VERSE
And when we prom the avenue, all lined up in a row,
And arm in arm and step in time as down the street we go.
No matter if a freshman green, or in a senior's gown,
The people all admit we are the warmest gang in town.

CHORUS

VERSE
We may not live forever on this jolly good old sphere,
But while we do we'll live a life of merriment and cheer,
And when our college days are o'er and night is drawing nigh,
With parting breath we'll sing that song:
"A Utah Man Am I".

CHORUS

** note: We had a technical issue part way through the recording of the video podcast, where the video goes out (stupid tech), however, the audio continues. So nothing crippling to the episode. I'll fix it in the future where that shouldn't happen.
