Utah commit wide receiver R.J. Hubert from Moapa Valley High School in Overton, Nev. will join Utah after serving a two-year LDS mission. He did not sign a National Letter of Intent with Utah (because only 25 players can sign NLIs in one class). At 6-0 175 lbs. and with a 4.5 40 yard dash, Hubert is a versatile and explosive athlete who contributed primarily as a receiver and kick returner in high school, but also at cornerback on defense.
Hubert was a force for Moapa Valley hauling in 41 receptions for 9 touchdowns at receiver and picking of six passes as a defensive back. Hubert also showed a knack for running with the ball scoring 13 rushing touchdowns and scoring 5 touchdowns as a returner.
Hubert's versatility is likely a big reason why the Utah staff recruited him. At Hubert's size, he could get a chance to play a similar role to what Britain Covey and Bubba Poole did last season in the slot. A player who can make things happen in open space, he could see a fair amount of bubble screens and end arounds. Hubert should has elite athleticism but it might be a while before Utah fans get to see him in action. He is a sign and send recruit, so it will be a couple years before he'll contribute.
