Utah will sign Timpview High School wide receiver Samson Nacua in the fall, just like Julian Blackmon and Britain Covey this past season. He has a 3 star composite ranking by 247. At 6-3 175 lbs. Nacua is a rangy receiver with the ability to play multiple postions. At Timpview, Nacua starred at receiver on offense, but also saw time at safety on defense and as a returner on special teams. Nacua is the younger brother of BYU starting safety Kai Nacua.
During his senior season at Timpview, Nacua hauled in 64 receptions for 1,358 yards and eight touchdowns. Nacua is an under the radar pickup for the Utes, the only other schools offering Nacua being Weber State and Snow College. The hesitation by other programs is likely in large part to academic issues Nacua struggled with prior to his senior season. His talent is obvious when watching his film however. With his long frame, he is reminiscent of current Utah receiver Tyrone Smith and Tim Patrick.
The receiver position has been an area of weakness for Utah football in recent years, but the addition of a talent like Nacua will help in shoring up that weakness. Nacua could stand to add some weight and is still a bit raw, however he has good hands and body control and should have an opportunity to compete for early playing time.
