San Clemente HS (San Clemente, Calif.) has been kind to Utah again with tight end Cole Fotheringham. Tight end saw a rash of injuries last season, so adding depth to the position in the future is key. Fotheringham will be joining Utah after a two-year LDS mission, so he will come in to help replace players like Siale Fakailoatonga and Harrison Handley, who will graduate by the time he enrolls at Utah. The 6-5, 232 Fotheringham is rated a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite ranking.
Fotheringham does a nice job of finding space in the defense by running good routes. Tight ends can be a nice safety valve in an offense and Fotheringham can certainly fill that role. He also has good speed for his size, which makes it hard for linebackers to cover him. At 6-5, he can go up and get the football. He shows decent blocking ability in his film. He reminds me a bit of Handley. He will have time to add weight while on his mission, and I think he needs to, because 232 pounds is a little small to play tight end in the Pac-12. He will be a nice pass catching target when he gets to Utah.
Utah had to fight off a late push from BYU to keep Fotheringham committed to Utah.
