S/LB Sio T.J. Kautai to join Utes after LDS mission

Utah football signs three-star safety/linebacker Sio T.J. Kautai

Sio T.J. Kautai, a composite 24/7 three-star safety/linebacker from Trinity High School in Euless, Texas, will join the Utes after his LDS mission. At 5-foot-10, 200 pounds, Kautai could potentially play safety or linebacker for Utah. After he serves his two year LDS mission, his position could change depending on how much his body changes during his mission. He may not have the speed to play safety in the Pac-12, so he will likely bulk up and play linebacker.

Kautai only played in three games in his senior season. In the limited action, he racked up 23 tackles and a fumble recovery.

Trinity High School, for a long time, was a pipeline for Utah, so landing a prospect from there is nice for the Utes. Safeties coach and special teams coordinator Morgan Scalley was his primary recruiter. Kautai was somewhat of a surprise when he committed and did not hold any other offers besides Utah. Utah fans will have to wait a few years for Kautai's Utah career to start, but he should be worth the wait.
