The Utah Football program is known for funneling players into the NFL, in fact, according to a study done by CFB Matrix, Utah is tied for the number 1 team in the country in developing NFL talent.  This should serve as good news for this weekend’s NFL draft hopefuls.  In recent history, Ute alums have had major success in the NFL.  Eagles cornerback Eric Rowe earned a starting job his first year with the team.  Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei was a key member of an historic run that ended in a Super Bowl appearance.  Defensive tackle Sealver Siliga, now a member of the Seattle Seahawks, even won a Super Bowl with the New England Patriots.  The list goes on but the bottom line is this: when teams draft Utah players, they produce. Just look at Ravens return man Kaelin Clay, a sixth round pick that fought his way into a legitimate special teams threat as a rookie in 2015.

Here’s a list of where Utes from the previous three years went in the draft:

2013

Star Lotulelei – DT

First Round, Pick 14 – Carolina Panthers

Joe Kruger – DE

Seventh Round, Pick 212 – Philadelphia Eagles

2014

Keith McGill – CB

Fourth Round, Pick 116 – Oakland Raiders

Trevor Reilly – LB

Seventh Round, Pick 233 – New York Jets

2015

Eric Rowe – CB

Second Round, Pick 47 – Philadelphia Eagles

Nate Orchard – DE

Second Round, Pick 51 – Cleveland Browns

Jeremiah Poutasi – G

Third Round, Pick 66 – Tennessee Titans

Kaelin Clay – WR

Sixth Round, Pick 184 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers

This year, expect the same trend.  All the guys being considered possess the unique Utah Football personality of toughness, passion, and love for the game.  Teams know exactly what they are getting when they draft former Utes.  It is no surprise that Utah leads the pack in developing NFL talent.  Keep track of this year's draft class here.
