Utah’s wide receivers have been shaping up really nicely, with the return of Tim Patrick, Raelon Singleton, Cory Butler-Byrd and Demari Simpkins. Utah’s quarterback, Troy Williams, has legit options down field to throw to. A couple more weapons will be put on the shelf for the 2016 season to redshirt, but for different reasons.
Caleb Repp is being redshirted this season, so he can get stronger, per Coach Kyle Whittingham at his Coaches Show Tuesday night. Repp is a big, rangy wide receiver, similar to Tim Patrick, but he’s a bit skinny. He made some big plays in spring, after making the change from wide receiver. The question is, if he gets bigger, does he go back to tight end? It’ll be interesting to see what he looks like going into next year, and could be a big addition to the line up with the loss of Tim Patrick.
The other receiver that will redshirt is Alec Dana, a speedster JC transfer. Dana is a name I was looking forward to possibly seeing this year, but a thumb surgery will keep him from seeing the field. Next season, he could be a body that fills in for the loss of Cory Butler-Byrd.
